"The Lord's Prayer" sermon by Pastor Daniel Mills

God is our loving Heavenly Father and he longs for us to know him through the intimacy of prayer!

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Our Father in heaven

John 1:12 – But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

Galatians 4:6 – And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father”

Hallowed be your name

John 12:28 – “Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 26:39 – “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

1 Peter 1:20 – God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.

John 16:23 – At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request

1 Corinthians 15:24 – After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power.

Give us today our daily bread

Matthew 6:31-33 – So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Luke 11:11-13 – “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Matthew 7:11 – So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors

Genesis 50:21 – "No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children." So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them.

Ephesians 4:32 – Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one

Matthew 3:17 – And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

Matthew 4:1 – Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.

The Paradox of Christianity

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
