"The Church of Laodicea: The Lukewarm Church" sermon by Pastor Daniel Mills

Revelation of Jesus

Revelation 3:14 – This is the message from the one who is the Amen—the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s new creation.

Rebuke

Revelation 3:15-16 – I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

Revelation 3:17 – You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

Wretched

Romans 7:23-24 – I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sinat work within me. What a wretched man I am!

Miserable

1 Corinthians 15:19 – And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.

Poor

2 Corinthians 8:9 – You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

Colossians 3:16 – Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.

Blind

Colossians 3:1-2 – Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Naked

Colossians 3:12-14 – Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Remedy

Revelation 3:18 – So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.

1 Peter 1:7 – These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Romans 13:14 – Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh

Colossians 3:14 – Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Ephesians 1:18-19 – I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Revelation 3:19 – I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

Hebrews 12:5-7 – My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children.

Revelation 3:20 – Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.

Reward

Revelation 3:21 – Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.

Revelation 3:22 – Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.
