"DO IT" sermon by Pastor Kevin Rutledge

KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT APPLICATION IS USELESS

1 Corinthians 13:1-2 - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have  not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

Matthew 5:20 - For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 28:19-20 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

John 14:15 - If you love me, you will obey what I command.

GOD USES THE BIBLE TO MAKE US SPIRITUALLY ALIVE

1 Peter 1:23 - For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

James 1:18a - He chose to give us birth through the word of truth.

GOD USES THE BIBLE TO LEAD US TO LIVE A RIGHTEOUS LIFE

A CALL TO RIGHTEOUS LIVING

James 1:19-21 - My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

A CALL TO DOING, NOT JUST HEARING

James 1:22-25 - Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-- he will be blessed in what he does.

TRUE RELIGION

James 1:26 – 27 - If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
