Lunar New Year

2024

We celebrate at Unionville Alliance the new year traditions of East and Southeast Asia and their diasporas. It's a season of joy and new beginnings for many among us.

Did you know that Lunar New Year is celebrated by communities across the globe, not just in East and Southeast Asia? From the lantern-lit streets of Taiwan to the vibrant dragon dances of Vietnam, and all the way to the festive markets of Singapore and Thailand, this occasion unites people in a shared celebration of heritage and hope. As the world rings in the Lunar New Year, millions from countries including China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Mongolia, as well as their diasporas, come together to honor a tradition that spans centuries and continents.

Will you reach out to a neighbour and ask about their Lunar New Year customs? Will you share yours with others? Look for local festivities to partake in!
