"The Spirit’s Intercession" - Romans 8:26-30 // Pastor Justin Hsu

How’s your prayer life? Have you ever wondered if God is listening to you when you pray? Are you sometimes stuck in not knowing exactly what to pray for? Join us as we explore Romans 8:26-30, as the Apostle Paul reminds us of the beauty of the Holy Spirit’s intercession in our lives. When we are weak and do not know how or what to pray for, the Spirit intercedes. When we fall out of alignment with God’s perfect will for our lives, the Spirit intercedes. When we worry that we will not reach God’s ultimate purpose for us, to be conformed to the image of Christ, the Spirit intercedes. In His goodness, love, and grace, God has gifted us with the Holy Spirit, who lives within us, and constantly intercedes on our behalf with God the Father, keeping our communication with the Lord perfect in every way.

Romans 8:26-30 (NLT)

26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

1 Corinthians 15:43-44, NLT

Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.

The Spirit Intercedes….

  • In our times of weakness
  • In accordance with the perfect will of God
  • To conform us to the image of Christ

Romans 8:26, NLT

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT

Each time he said, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’

Romans 8:27, NLT

And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

Romans 8:34, NLT

Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

Romans 8:28, NLT

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Romans 8:17, NLT

And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory…

Matthew 6:7-8, NLT

When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!

Romans 8:29, NLT

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Romans 5:8, NLT

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Philippians 3:21, NLT

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Romans 8:30, NLT

And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

GOD IS WORKING EVERYTHING TOGETHER FOR GOOD!
