"A Sacrificial Vision" - Romans 12:3-13 // Elder Winston Miller

What if the true richness of life is found not in what we keep, but in what we give away? In A Sacrificial Vision, we’ll dive into the profound truth that serving others is not just a duty, but a pathway to a deeper, more meaningful life. We are called to serve, not out of obligation, but out of a love so compelling that it mirrors the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for us. This message will challenge you to see sacrifice not as a loss, but as a gain—an opportunity to experience the fullness of God’s love as you pour it into others. As we serve, we are not just giving; we are receiving a greater understanding of God’s heart and His purpose for our lives. The act of serving enriches our souls, deepens our faith, and connects us to the very essence of what it means to follow Jesus. Imagine the impact we can make when we choose to live with a sacrificial vision, putting others before ourselves just as Jesus did for us. How can you use your gifts and talents for the Kingdom of God? Come ready to be inspired and to discover how your life can be transformed through the power of serving with love and purpose.

How is your serve?

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 3:14

To serve means:

  • To work for
  • To perform duties
  • To attend to as assistant
  • To be of use to
  • To minister.

3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. -Romans 12:3-5

11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. -Ephesians 4:11-13

2 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. 3 And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. 4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.” -Acts 6:2-4

And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. -1 Peter 2:5

1. We Are Created For Service

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” -Ephesians 2:10

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” -Matthew 20:28

2. We Are Gifted For Service

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. -1 Peter 4:10-11

“It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have”. -1 Cor. 12:11

“But that doesn’t mean you should all look and speak and act the same. Out of the generosity of Christ, each of us is given his own gift.

He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christ’s followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church, until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ.” -Ephesians 4:7,11-13 (The Message)

3. Serving Draws Us Into Authentic Community

4. Serving Requires Obedience & Redirects Our Focus To Jesus

23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.  -Colossians 3:23-24

“Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am, and the Father will honour anyone who serves me “ -John 12:26

7 Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 8 Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free - Ephesians 6:7-8

For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many -Mark 10:45

5 Essential Ingredients Of Serving:

  1. Sacrifice
  2. Enthusiasm
  3. Integrity
  4. Commitment
  5. Excellence in Service

10 For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. 11 Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.” -Hebrews 6:10-11 (NLT)
