"The Fullness of the Spirit" by Daniel Mills

1. The Spirit empowers us to understand his word

John 16:13 – When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.

Acts 2:42 – All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

2. The Spirit empowers us to pray

Romans 8:26-27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

3. The Spirit empowers us to speak

Acts 4:31 – After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

4. The Spirit empowers us to be generous

Acts 4:32 – All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.

Acts 4:34-35 – There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

1 Corinthians 12:13 But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

1 Kings 18:33-35 – Then he said, “Fill four large jars with water, and pour the water over the offering and the wood.” After they had done this, he said, “Do the same thing again!” And when they were finished, he said, “Now do it a third time!” So they did as he said, and the water ran around the altar and even filled the trench.

5. The Spirit empowers us to produce fruit

Galatians 5:22-23 – But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

6. The Spirit empowers us to operate in his gifts

1 Corinthians 12:7 – A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

7. The Spirit empowers us to serve

Acts 6:2-3 – So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.”

2 Corinthians 3:6 – He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.
