Living in the Light of Eternity // Pastor Daniel Mills
What do we do when the end feels near? Daniel’s final visions reveal the spiritual battles behind human history, the ultimate deliverance of God’s people, and the promise of resurrection. These chapters reveal not only the unseen warfare between angels and demonic powers but also God’s ultimate plan to deliver His people and establish His eternal kingdom. We are reminded that God is in control, even in the face of chaos and conflict. How should we live in light of the end? This message challenges us to endure with faith, live boldly for Christ, and trust in the hope of His eternal kingdom. It’s a call to faithfulness in the present, knowing that God writes the final chapter of history. You’ll leave inspired to live for the God whose victory is certain and whose promises are eternal.
Behind the chaos of human history, an unseen spiritual conflict is raging, yet God’s ultimate victory is certain. Because that victory includes the resurrection and a final restoration of His people, we can face adversity with unshakeable hope and faithful endurance.
There is a spiritual battle taking place behind earthly events.
Daniel 10:6 – His body looked like a precious gem. His face flashed like lightning, and his eyes flamed like torches. His arms and feet shone like polished bronze, and his voice roared like a vast multitude of people.
Daniel 10:13 – But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.
Ephesians 6:12 – For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Daniel 10:11 – And the man said to me, “Daniel, you are very precious to God, so listen carefully to what I have to say to you. Stand up, for I have been sent to you.”
Daniel 10:19 – “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!”
The Lord’s prophetic words will come to pass.
11:2 – three more kings and a fourth which is richer
- Cyrus (current)
- Cambyses (530-522 BC)
- Smerdis (522 BC)
- Darius I (522-486 BC)
- Xerxes I (the rich ruler)
11:3 – Mighty King: Alexander the Great
11:4 – Divided into Four Kingdoms after Alexander’s death and two are the northern and southern kingdoms: the Ptolemaic (Egyptian) and the Seleucid (Syrian)
11:5-20 – descriptions of the battles and rivalry between these two kingdoms. Sometimes Daniel is thought to have been written later because of the detail in these verses which are so accurate instead of it being prophetic in nature.
11:21-35 – Antiochus IV Epiphanes is an Antichrist type ruler who was probably worse than Hitler. Could also be the “little horn” of chapter 8
11:36 – 12:3 – prophecies concerning the end times
12:7-12 – Abomination of Desolation which connects to the book of Revelation
Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Hebrews 10:23 – Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
We live in the hope of the resurrection and the kingdom to come
Daniel 12:2-3 – Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.
John 11:25-26 – Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
1 Corinthians 15:51, 54-57 – But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
So what should we do?
1 Corinthians 15:58 – So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
Strong: bold, courageous, and confident in the promises of God
Immoveable: standing in faith and trust in the Lord who is with us and knows our name
Work enthusiastically: be disciple-makers to invite more people into this wonderful kingdom that can never be shaken but that endures forever
